Muskies Take Third at Russ Devette Tournament

The Lakeland Muskies took third place at the 17th annual Russ Devette Holiday Tournament in Holland, Mich., with a 75-67 victory over Goshen, Ind.
The Muskies took an early 30-14 lead before a scoreless five minutes and a 15-0 run by Goshen cut the lead to 33-29. Goshen was able to continue their run to take a 36-35 lead at the half. Lakeland registered 11 personal fouls in the first half compared to three for Goshen.
Senior Germayne James, who scored 24 points on the evening, hit several key three's in the closing minutes to help seal the victory for Lakeland. The guard hit a three as the shot clock was expiring to give the Muskies a 66-61 lead with 2:36 remaining in the game. James also hit a three with 1:20 left to play to put the Muskies up by 10, 71-61.
Freshman Matt Rogers and sophomore Kris Saiberlich also scored in double figures for Lakeland with Saiberlich putting in 14 and Rogers shooting 4-4 from the floor on his way to an 11-point night. Lakeland shot 49% from the field on the evening.
James scored 41 points over the two-day tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Muskies, 8-4 overall, will face Edgewood in an Lake Michigan Conference match on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Muskies defeated the LMC preseason favorites 82-61 at Edgewood earlier this season.
