The Lakeland women’s basketball team opened the fourth annual Play with Grace Classic with a 66-57 victory over UW-Superior.
In a sloppy game in which each team turned the ball over 20 times, the clear difference in the game was the play of Lakeland’s starters, who combined for all but four of the Muskies’ points.
Junior forward Beth Porter poured in 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds to lead the Muskies in each category.
Lake Michigan Conference preseason Player of the Year Renee Steinert and Kristi Thill both had 16 points for Lakeland. Steinert also tallied 3 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Lakeland, who led 29-24 at halftime, shot 50 percent as a team from the floor, compared to Superior’s 41 percent shooting.
The Muskies will play UW-LaCrosse tomorrow at 4 p.m.
