Three days after going 2-0 in their “Play with Grace” Classic, the Muskies women’s basketball team traveled to Rockford College in Illinois to take on the undefeated Regents. The Muskies come out of Rockford with their first loss, falling in a close one 58-57.

In the first half, the Muskies jumped out to the early lead, gaining a four point advantage at the 15:33 mark off of a three point basket by Beth Porter. The Regents would answer right back with a layup by Kristi Strunz. Rockford would turn on the jets and run to a seven point lead with 1:16 left in the first half, but the Muskies' Connie Thousand hit a three as time expired to cut the lead to four at 36-32 going into the locker room.

In the second half, the Regents would strike first at the 16:52 mark when Angie Butler hit a jumper to push their lead to six. Beth Porter hit a three pointer at the 14:12 mark followed by a layup by Kristi Thill to cut the Regent lead to one.

From there, it was all Rockford, who would build a seven point lead at the 2:22 mark at 56-49. The Muskies would mount a comeback attempt led by Thousand and Thill, but it was too little to late for the Muskies, as Thill’s three pointer at the basket was good, but only cut the Regent to lead.

Leading the way for the Muskies was Steinert, who chipped in 20 points and six boards for the Muskies, shooting 7-12 from the floor. Porter had a double-double, 14 points and 10 rebounds, in the loosing effort for the Muskies. Thrill added nine points as did Connie Thousand.
