Men's Basketball drops Season Opener to UW-River Falls

The Lakeland men’s basketball team ran into a hot shooting UW River Falls team and dropped an 84-68 decision in the season opener for both team at the Bethel Tip-Off Tournament Friday night

River Falls shot 12 of 15 behind the three point line and made 26 of 30 free throws. Hans Hoeg led River Falls with 28 point including 16 of 16 free throw shooting. Dan Torrez made 6 of 7 three points and added 20 points for the Falcons

Lakeland cut a double digit River Falls lead to seven at 67-60 with five minutes to play on a Kris Saiberlich three pointer and a Germayne James lay up after a River Falls turnover. But River Falls scored the next eight on free throws and pushed their lead to fifteen with just under two minutes to play to seal the win.

Saiberlich made all five of his 3-point attempts and led Lakeland with 17 points in his college debut. Nick Zeck scored 14 and James added 12.

Lakeland faces Martin Luther at 6pm Saturday in the Bethel Tournament consolation game.
