Muskies comeback attempt falls short

Athletics - posted on 1/8/2005

Ryan Wietor scored 34 points to help the visiting Concordia Falcons down the Lakeland men’s basketball team, 95-88, after the Muskies failed to climb back from a large second half deficit.

Lakeland trailed by as many as 24 with 55 seconds left in the first half, but stormed back, pulling within five points with 10:28 left to play.

After a fast break layup by Ryan Hiir with 50 seconds remaining in the game, the Muskies trailed by just four, but consecutive free throws by Wietor sealed the game for Concordia.

Germayne James led the Muskies with 24 points, and Nick Zeck recorded a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds.

Concordia shot 67 percent from behind the three point line, led by Anthony Johnson, who shot 7 of 8 from behind the arc, finishing with 23 points.

The loss dropped Lakeland to a 1-3 conference record and a 5-8 overall record. They travel to Milwaukee on Wednesday to face Wisconsin Lutheran at 7:00 p.m.
