Lakeland College took home third place at the Goaltenders-Bankers Classic Tournament with an 89-61 win over Alma College, Mich., on Saturday in Franklin, Ind.
Sophomore Matt Rogers earned the first double-double of his college career scoring 29 points and coming down with 10 boards. He was also named to the all-tournament team.
Lakeland out-rebounded Alma a whopping 52-26, key to the Muskies success. The Muskies were also stellar from the free throw line shooting 80% for the game and 49% from the field.
"We shot well and did a great job rebounding," said Lakeland head coach Kyle Brumett. "I've been telling our guys how we do on the glass will always be key for us. Last night we weren't physical enough and I challenged the guys to step it up today. The rebound total is a clear indicator that they did."
The Muskies took the lead from the beginning and the Scots were never able to recover. Lakeland was up by as many as 17 points with just four minutes to play in the first quarter. The Muskies went into the locker room with a 44-32 advantage.
Junior Aaron Regal also scored in the double figures for the Muskies putting in 10 points, leading Lakeland with six assists and four rebounds.
"Aaron is playing outstanding," said Brumett of Regal who shot 75% for the game. "He also put together a great game last night in our loss.
Junior Danny Ehnert added 10 rebounds for the Muskies en route to the win. Senior Tyrone Coleman also had a stellar game on the glass with eight rebounds.
The Muskies, 4-4 overall, will face Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Athletics Conference match on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Lakeland College. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
