Athletics - posted on 1/16/2007

The Lakeland Muskies improved to 8-6 overall, 6-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference with an 86-50 victory over conference foe Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday evening.

The Muskies never trailed the Crusaders (3-10, 0-8 NAC) as they got off to a 47-8 start in the game. Lakeland led 49-19 at halftime, and put the game away going up 84-43 with just over four minutes left to play.

"We got off to a great start tonight," said Lakeland head coach Kyle Brumett. "Our regular rotation did a great job. They were sharing the ball and did a good job of not turning the ball over."

Three Muskies saw double digits against the Crusaders. Junior Danny Ehnert scored 12 points and had nine rebounds to lead the way for Lakeland. Sophomore Kris Saiberlich had 12 points, while junior Aaron Regal added 11 points and seven assists.

"Danny had a great game leading the team in points and rebounds," said Brumett. "Regal also played really well, leading the team with seven assists and Kris had a great game with 12 points. Those three played really well together tonight."

"We're trying to get better every game," added Brumett. "It's a new system for them. Regardless of the score, we want to improve, working on offense and defense. Our regular rotation did well with that tonight."

The Muskies had a great night shooting, especially in the first half when they shot 57 percent from the field and 43 percent from behind the 3-point line.

The Muskies will continue a stretch of road games as they take on Marian on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 4:15 p.m.  Lakeland will play again at home on Tuesday, Jan. 30 as they take on Concordia University-Chicago at 7 p.m.
