Muskies win two duals; Hartt defeats ranked wrestler

The Lakeland College Muskies opened their 2007-08 wrestling season with a pair of wins at the Lakeland Duals on Saturday. The Muskies went 2-2 defeating UW- Eau Claire (28-9) and UW-Platteville (24-17), while dropping matches to Coe College (39-10) and St. Johns (Minn.) (20-19) in very close, hard fought matches.

Individually, senior Paul Hartt and sophomore Adam Sutter both went 4-0 on the day, while senior Calvin O'neal went 3-0. Junior Kory Theil also finished strong finishing 3-1 for the day.
 
Hartt had a sensational day in his 197 weight class, going undefeated, 4-0. His biggest win of the day came when he defeated Rob Kramer of Coe College who is the ninth-ranked wrestler in the nation, 11-0. He also defeated UW-Eau Claire's Josh Holforty (7-5), UW-Platteville's Michael Jackowski (14-2) and St. John's Jason Finley (10-2).
 
Sutter also had a phenomenal day in the heavyweight division going 4-0. Sutter was able to pin three of his four opponents for wins including: Coe's Jared Carder (2:35), UW-Platteville's Paul Wochinski (4:42) and St. Johns' Will Purdy (1:35). He also picked up a win against UW-Eau Claire's Dave Heser (10-5).
 
O'neal also had a great day on the mat going 3-0 in the 174 division. O'neal pinned St. Johns Randy Tietz (1:25) for his most exciting win of the day. The senior also picked up victories against UW-Platteville's Corey Zuberbier (15-7) and UW-Eau Claire's Joey Miller (15-9).
 
In the 133 division, Theil lost just one match to the seventh-ranked wrestler in the nation, Coe's Gannon Hjerleid, 6-0. Theil rebounded with victories over UW-Eau Claire's Andy Miller (5-4), UW-Platteville's Russ George (8-7) and St. Johns' Tim Thompson (2-0). 

The Muskies will next be in action on Tuesday, Nov. 31 when they take on UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. at Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac.
