The Lakeland men's golf team made an impressive showing at the two-day Marian College Invitational, finishing fourth with a total of 658 strokes in the 11-team tournament last weekend in Fond du Lac.

The young Muskie team was led by freshman Gary Petit, who finished fifth overall with a total of 150 (76-74), just three strokes behind tournament champion Brandon Vicory of Aurora University.

"Even though Gary said it was a grind at times, I think he still put up good numbers," Lakeland head coach Tyler Bormann said.

MSOE won the tournament with a total of 619, including three top-ten finishers.

Lakeland freshman Ben Laubusch (82-85) and sophomore Mike Ruzek (84-83) tied for 25th with a 167. Freshman Brian Ballisteri finished 43rd with a 179 (82-97), while classmate Jerry Mohawk rounded out Muskie scoring with a 182 (90-92), good for a 46th-place tie.

"I think it was a good start for us," Bormann said. "It was a good place for us to begin the year, and we posted some good scores. When we become more consistent one through five, we'll be more competitive."

The Muskies will head to Madison on Sept. 13-14 for the Edgewood College Invite at Yahara Hills GC.
