Muskies go 2-0 in 'Up North' road trip

ASHLAND, Wis. - The Lakeland College men's basketball team convincingly dismantled Northland College 69-44 in a nonconference game Tuesday night in Ashland, Wis.

Freshman guard Tim Rotruck (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench to lead the Muskies past the LumberJacks.

Hot first-half shooting and a fast paced tempo allowed the Muskies (5-6, 1-3 NAC) to take a 14 point advantage heading into the locker room. The LumberJacks rallied in the second-half and cut the lead to 10, but their deficit was too much as Lakeland wouldn't relinquish its lead.

Head coach Aaron Aanonsen was pleased with the team's up-tempo style of play.

"We came out and forced them to play up-tempo," said Aanonsen. "We forced a lot of turnovers and contained the ball nicely. We got up early and held it the entire game. It was another great team win for us."

For the game, Lakeland shot 45 percent from the field, but struggled from the charity stripe, posting 42.1 percent. Northland was held to 31.5 percent from the floor, while also struggling from the free throw line recording 41.7 percent.

Freshman guard Justin Ward added 11 points and three rebounds while junior guard Jack Ridgway posted eight points.

The Muskies end their Up North road trip 2-0 and gain confidence returning to Northern Athletics Conference action.

Lakeland returns to NAC action on Saturday, Jan. 8 against Rockford College. Tipoff is slated for 4:15 p.m. in the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
