First-place Concordia, Wis., marches past Muskies

MEQUON, Wis.- Junior Jack Ridgway scored a career-high 32 points, but it wasn't enough as the Lakeland College men's basketball team suffered a 95-84 setback against first-place Northern Athletics Conference foe, Concordia, Wis., Tuesday night.

After an impressive start, the Muskies (8-7, 3-4 NAC) found itself up by seven points early in the first-half as Concordia, Wis., didn't have an answer for the hot-shooting Muskies. Lakeland had a 38-37 advantage at halftime, but wasn't able to hold on for the win.

"We came out great and executed our game plan well," said Lakeland head coach Aaron Aanonsen. "In the second-half though, we came out a little flat and we weren't able to make defensive stops."

Edward Newton-Kemp hit a 3-pointer in the opening seconds to take a two-point led that CUW would never relinquish. The Falcons went up by as many as 17 points in the final minutes of the game to stay unbeaten in the NAC North Division.

Junior guard Bobby Komorowski (Germantown, Wis.) scored 18 points, grabbed four rebounds and recorded three steals. Junior guard Josh Regal (Suring, Wis.) posted 13 points to go along with five assists and three steals. Ridgway (Sioux Falls, S.D.) ended the night 10-of-17 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from behind the arc.

Mitchell Schneider led CUW with 19 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists.

For the game, Lakeland shot 47.7 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from behind the arc, but struggled from the free throw line, shooting only 68.8 percent. CUW posted 53.6 percent from the field, 57 percent from behind the arc and 79.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Lakeland returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 20, as they travel to Milwaukee to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
