The Lakeland College men's tennis team welcomes several new faces as they begin a new era under first-year head coach Casey Carr.
Carr inherits a young and inexperienced team, but he's anxious to get the Muskies' new lineup on the court. Lakeland looks to fill the shoes of four-time Northern Athletics Conference No. 1 singles champion Andre Glass. Carr believes senior Tom Kuehl (Hustisford, Wis.) has the right mix of experience and leadership to help fill the void and lead the Muskies.
"Tom is working hard and doing a great job leading our younger players," said Carr. "He is team captain this season and has the potential to compete at a high level for us."
Kuehl is joined by junior Andy Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomores Brandon Robinson (Burlington, Wis.) and Dane Maier (Middleton, Wis.), who also look to be top competitors.
"We don't have a lot of experience, but the guys are receptive to my coaching and are making the right plays in practice," said Carr. "Our biggest challenge this season is our inexperience, but I am confident we can be top competitors."
Glass is still part of the program, serving as an assistant coach this season.
"Andre is respected by the guys and his experience and ability to coach are a huge benefit to the team," said Carr. "I am excited to have Andre on staff because he knows what it takes to win."
Carr hopes to be competitive in every meet and walk away from the NAC Tournament with opponents knowing Lakeland is a solid program.
The Muskies begin their season on Saturday, March 5, as they travel to Oshkosh, Wis., to take on Carthage College and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Lakeland opens NAC competition on April 13 as they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
