Junior Ryan Renon finished fifth at the 165-pound weight class to lead the Lakeland College wrestling team to an 11th place finish at the Cornell College Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa Saturday.
The Muskies faced eight nationally ranked teams, including No. 1 Wartburg College, No. 2 Augsburg College and No. 4 the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, who the Muskies placed ahead of in the final standings.
Renon, who was seeded fourth, ended the day with a 4-2 record, including two pin falls and his sixth technical fall of the year. He pinned Levi Polus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1:25 in the first round and went on to earn a 9-2 decision over Brett Yonkovic of No. 1 Wartburg in round two. In round three, Renon earned a 16-0 tech fall over Will Hansen of No. 5 Coe College, but fell in a 14-2 major decision to the No. 1 seeded Nick LeCleve of Coe in round four.
In the fifth place match, Renon pinned Jase Schossow of No. 1 Warburg in just 42 seconds.
The grapplers return to action on Jan. 21 as they head to the Border Brawl in Whitewater, Wis.
