Seniors earn victories as grapplers drop decision to MSOE

The Lakeland College wrestling team dropped a 27-15 decision to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Wrestling Association dual meet Friday night at the Kern Center in Milwaukee.


The Muskies dropped their six-straight dual meet and fell to the Raiders for the second consecutive year.


Seniors Miguel Luis and Robby Frias, junior Ryan Renon, and sophomore Grant Franson each tallied victories for the Muskies.


Renon, who wrestles at the 165-pound weight class, earned his 19th victory of the year in a 9-3 decision over Peter Kootsra. Frias, who competed at 149, earned a 6-5 decision over Joshua Wengerter, while Luis captured a 5-3 decision over William Pederson at 174. Franson earned a forfeit at 125 and boosted the team's efforts.
 

The grapplers return to NWA action on Feb. 8 as they host Concordia University Wisconsin in a 7 p.m. start in the Wehr Center Fieldhouse.

149 Roberto Frias (Lakeland) won by decision over Joshua Wengerter (MSOE) 6-5.

157 Dallas Schurg (MSOE) won by decision over Brent Steudel (Lakeland) 8-3.

165 Ryan Renon (Lakeland) won by decision over Peter Kootstra (MSOE) 9-3.

174 Miguel Luis (Lakeland) won by decision over William Pedersen (MSOE) 5-3.

184 Caleb Staub (MSOE) won by forfeit.

197 Marcus Rokosh (MSOE) won by major decision over Vincent Cardarelle (Lakeland) 12-1.

285 Austin Karls (MSOE) won by tech fall over Thomas Phalin (Lakeland) 3:53 17-0.
