WATERTOWN, Wis. - Junior Jake Schwarz eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring mark to lead the Lakeland College men's basketball team to a 110-79 victory against Maranatha Baptist Bible College in the team's Northern Athletics Conference opener Tuesday night.
Schwarz's 36 points make him the 38th player in the program's history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. The 6-foot-5 forward earned the feat at the 18:29 mark in the second half as he sank two free throws. He also finished with 11 rebounds.
The Muskies (2-1, 1-0) used a 24-8 run in the middle of the first half to take a 21-point advantage heading into the locker room. Schwarz scored 17 of his 36 points and shot an impressive 80 percent from the floor in the first half to lead the Muskies.
Maranatha was able to cut the lead to 13 early in the second half, but the Muskies wouldn't relinquish their lead and led by as many as 33 points.
Sophomore guard James Oshkeshequoam (Shawano) chipped in with 16 points, while sophomore Justin Ward (Wisconsin Dells) added 13 points and eight rebounds. Senior Jack Ridgway (Sioux Falls S.D.) added 12 points and senior Josh Regal (Suring) dished out eight assists.
