Muskies of the Week: Dana Schmidt and Dylan Van Straten

Senior Dana Schmidt and sophomore Dylan Van Straten have been named the college's Muskies of the Week for their performances in Northern Athletics Conference play last week. Read about their performances below.

Dana Schmidt

Senior Dana Schmidt has one of the most intimidating presences on the Lakeland College women's soccer team.

The Menasha, Wis., native helped the Muskies snap a seven-game losing streak as she scored two goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Northern Athletics Conference action on Oct. 13. Schmidt scored the game-winning goal in the 64th minute and tallied the insurance goal in the 88th minute of play.

Schmidt has capped five goals and has added three assists this season. She is third on the team for points (13) and has started in all 16 games for the Muskies.

The 5-foot-10 midfielder was nominated for NAC Player of the Week.

Schmidt is an exercise science major.

Dylan Van Straten

Sophomore Dylan Van Straten continues to impress with both his arm and his legs.

The Shiocton, Wis., native recorded his fourth rushing and sixth passing touchdown of the season on Saturday. Van Straten rushed for a team-high 89 yards on 27 carries, while completing 9-of-18 passes for 158 yards, one interception and one TD.

The 6-foot-1 quarterback is a sophomore transfer who is the dual-threat Lakeland needs to run their intricate offense. He also was nominated for NAC offensive player of the week for his performance.

Van Straten is majoring in business.
