Muskies of the Week: Ryan Renon and Jessica Genke

Junior Ryan Renon and sophomore Jessica Genke have been named the college's Muskies of the Week for their performances in action last week. Read about their success below.

Ryan Renon

Junior Ryan Renon garnered Muskie of the Week honors for the second straight week after posting two more impressive performances for the wrestling team.

Renon, who wrestles in the 165-pound weight class, placed second at the Concordia Open on Nov. 19. His first loss of the season came to Landon Williams from No. 1-ranked Wartburg College in the championship match. Renon increased his season record to 8-1 and has recorded four technical falls.

The Concordia Open is one of the largest NCAA Division III tournaments and consists of roughly 350 wrestlers and 30 teams from seven different states. This year, five top 25 teams were among the field, including No. 1 Wartburg, No. 11 North Central College, No. 15 University of Wisconsin- Whitewater, No. 21 Augustana College and No. 23 Wabash College.

Renon, a Wrightstown, Wis., native, is ranked seventh by d3wrestle.com and ninth in the nation at 165. He earned a 15-0 technical fall over Nick Sheppard of Concordia University Nebraska on Nov. 18.

A: Hopefully a lot more.

A: Lakeland head coach Mike DeRoehn and former Lakeland head coach Pete Rogers.

Q: What is your favorite wrestling move?
A: Anything to do with the cross wrist series.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: Italy because it's part of my heritage.

Jessica Genke

Sophomore Jessica Genke garnered Muskie of the Week honors this week for her performance in the 2011 Lakeland College Tip-Off tournament.

The 5-foot-7 forward had a great first game for Lakeland as she scored 23 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, and she followed that with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the Muskies' first win of the season over the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

The Kiel, Wis, native is currently averaging 17.5 points and 17.5 rebounds after two games. She is shooting 58.3 percent from the field and is playing 31 minutes per game.
