SHEBOYGAN - Marvin Klaudt scored a pair of first half goals for Maranatha Baptist Bible College and the Lakeland College men's soccer team was dealt a 2-1 loss Thursday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference match.
Klaudt scored what proved to be the winning goal in the match's 23rd minute, breaking a 1-1 tie as all three goals were scored in a span of 5:50. Lakeland dropped to 0-8-1 in its last nine matches and is now 2-10-2 overall and 0-5-2 in the NAC.
Maranatha Baptist (6-8 overall, 2-5 NAC) scored both of its goals in similar fashion, as Klaudt got the ball out in front of him on the right side and beat Muskie goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Sr.-Menasha, Wis.) to the loose ball. Klaudt dribbled past Piekarski towards the end line and then lofted a shot from a tight angle into the left side of the net, with the first goal coming at 17:06 and the second at 22:56.
Lakeland scored the equalizer after the first goal, responding just 1:05 later as Josh Borts (Fr.-Greenfield, Wis.) received a pass in traffic from Farouk Dadzie (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and beat goalkeeper Kyle Kutz for his first collegiate goal. The Muskies had a slight upper hand in the first half, outshooting Maranatha 9-7, but couldn't generate much offense in the second half as the Crusaders owned a 9-5 advantage in shots.
Dadzie accounted for much of Lakeland's shots at the goal, taking eight of the team's 14 shots. Piekarski made four saves in goal and the Muskies added a fifth save when Danny Drabik (So.-Madison, Wis.) cleared a shot by Klaudt just in front of the goal line after Klaudt had beaten Piekarski and had an open net.
Klaudt led Maranatha Baptist with five shots on goal, and Todd Howard added an assist on the Crusaders' first goal. Kutz and Tyler Holley split action in the goal and combined to make five saves.
The Muskies are in action again Sunday when they travel to face Aurora (Ill.) University in an NAC match at 11:30 a.m. in Aurora.
