Buchmann resigns as Lakeland's head softball coach

Athletics - posted on 5/9/2012

Chad Buchmann, one of the winningest head softball coaches in Lakeland College history, resigned from that position on Friday following the end of the team's season.

He steps down after eight seasons, guiding the program to a 164-152 overall record, six straight Northern Athletics Conference Tournament appearances and two Lake Michigan Conference Tournament appearances.

A native of Sheboygan, Wis., Buchmann led the Muskies to a 30-win season in 2009 and two 27-win seasons (2007, 2010). In 2007, Buchmann's Muskies posted a 23-game win streak, breaking the program's record of 15 set in 1994. He leaves tied as the program's all-time wins leader.

During the summers, Buchmann serves as a head coach for USAAI College Softball organization, which competes internationally. He has guided teams to two gold medals, one silver and one bronze. Locally, he is a founding member and the coaching coordinator of Sheboygan's only youth girls ASA competitive fastpitch program.

Prior to coaching at Lakeland, Buchmann served as head coach at Jamestown College for two years. He led the Jimmies to a school-record 41 games in his first year and posted a 65-41 overall record.

Buchmann graduated from Lakeland in 1998 and received his master of education from the college in 2009.

The college has launched a national search for a successor.
