WAUKESHA - The Lakeland College women's soccer team came in ninth in the 2012 Northern Athletics Conference preseason poll of league coaches, released today by the conference.
The Muskies received 55 points in the poll, ranking ninth of the NAC's 13 women's soccer teams. The rating matches Lakeland's 2011 finish in conference play, when the Muskies finished 4-8 in league play (5-14 overall) to place ninth in the NAC.
Aurora (Ill.) University was predicted to win its seventh consecutive NAC title. The Spartans, the only team to win a championship in the league's history, received 166 points, including 11 of 13 first-place votes.
Marian (Wis.) University was second in the poll with 143 points, including one first-place vote. Edgewood (Wis.) College was third with 137 points, with Dominican (Ill.) University fourth with 130 points and Concordia University Wisconsin fifth with 126 points, including the final first-place vote.
The NAC's six-team conference tournament will take place Oct. 27-Nov. 3, with the tournament champion receiving the league's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
