Muskies go 3-1 on first day at Hoosier-Illini tourney

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team is off to a good start after pool play on the first day of the Hoosier-Illini Tournament, hosted by Indiana University.

The Muskies emerged from their pool as the top ranked team, winning a three-way tiebreaker after posting a 2-1 mark in pool play. Lakeland then posted a two-set win over Northern Illinois to close out its day at the 30-team tournament, which features teams from the Midwest, East and Southeast.

Lakeland opened with a two-set loss to Illinois this morning by a 27-25, 25-19 score. The Muskies followed with a sweep of Missouri (25-22, 25-15) and then defeated the Indiana 'B' team 25-18, 25-21.

Lakeland won a tie with Illinois and Missouri for the top spot out of Pool C, and the Muskies faced Northern Illinois in the Challenge Round to determine positioning for Sunday. Lakeland easily defeated the Huskies in two sets (25-18, 25-23).

The Muskies will open play in the tourney's Gold Bracket on Sunday morning bright and early at 7:45 a.m. Central time against Florida. Tournament information including brackets and results are available at http://www.indiana.edu/~imvbc/pages/hic.html.
