Athletics - posted on 11/26/2012

Lakeland College senior Jake Schwarz (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) has been named the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2012-13 season.

Schwarz received the honor after scoring 30 points in leading Lakeland to a 92-80 win over Beloit College Tuesday in a non-conference game. The 6-5 forward scored a game-high 30 points, including 18 points in the second half as well as the Muskies' final eight points over the final 1:39 of the first half. Schwarz shot 11-of-17 from the field, including 6-of-8 from the three-point line, and made all four of his three-point tries in the second half.

The award is the second straight of its kind for Lakeland men's basketball players. Teammate Joey Burris (So.-Kiel, Wis.) won the NAC's first weekly award of the 2012-13 last week after scoring a career-high 36 points in the Muskies' triple-overtime season-opening win over Lake Forest (Ill.) College.

Through two games this season Schwarz is averaging 28.5 points, eight rebounds and two assists per game and is shooting 47.7% from the field, including 42.9% from three-point range. With 1,630 career points he has moved into fifth place on Lakeland's all-time career scoring list. He is 26 points behind Gary Hovey (1963-67) for fourth place on the list and is 378 points behind the 2,008 points of John Koslowski (1980-84) for the school record in scoring.

Lakeland returns to action Tuesday night when it faces Edgewood College in its NAC opener at 7 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium. The game is a rematch of last year's NAC Tournament championship game, which Edgewood won 80-72 to win the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
