The Lakeland College women's basketball team opened the 2005-06 season Friday night with a 63-61 loss to Cornell College of Iowa at the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies will play Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2p.m. in the consolation game of the 2005 "Play with Grace" Tip-Off Tournament where they will square off with Clarke College of Iowa.  Clarke also lost their opening round game, dropping a 67-60 decision to Lawrence University.

Lakeland trailed at the half, 27-25, and in the second half, only took the lead once when senior guard Kristi Thill (Garden, Mich./Big Bay de Noc) hit a lay-up to make the score 45-44 Muskies.  The Muskies would keep the score within reach, but at the end, the Muskie offense could not close the gap.

For the Muskies, Senior Beth Porter (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) led the way with 19 points while Kristi Thill chipped in 14 as the only other Muskie to score in double figures.
