The Lakeland College women's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the UW-La Crosse tournament Saturday night with a 65-63 victory over Buena Vista University.
The Muskies were led by freshman Sasha Falish who poured in 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the Muskies. Seniors Kristi Thill and Beth Porter also scored in double figures, with Thill scoring 17 and Porter 13.
The Muskies jumped out to a 14-5 lead to start the game, but Buena Vista would go on a 21-3 run to jump back in front of the Muskies. At the half, Lakeland would trail 33-29. In the second half, Buena Vista would gain an 11 point lead at the 10:22 mark, 54-42.
With 2:37 left, Lakeland would tie the game at 60 after Beth Porter hit a lay-up and was fouled. Porter's free throw would tie the game.
Buena Vista's Kelli Staley would hit a three-pointer with 2:28 left, but Sasha Falish would answer back with a three of her own to tie the game back up at 63. Senior Kristi Thill would then be fouled on a rebound off a Jenna Boehm blocked shot with :14 remaining.
Thill hit both to give the Muskies the lead and the win, as Buena Vista missed the shot at the buzzer.
The Muskies will next play UW-La Crosse on Sunday, November 27th. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at UW-La Crosse's Mitchell Hall.
