Lakeland nominee for awards at 2024 Sheboygan County Chamber Champions Gala

Lakeland was a nominee for a pair of awards as part of the 2024 Sheboygan County Chamber Champions Gala.

  • Lakeland and Rocky Knoll Health Care Center were nominated for the Working Together Award.
  • Launch: Lakeland Student-Run Businesses was nominated for the Professional Service Organization of the Year.

Lakeland and Rocky Knoll are working together to add more caregivers to the workforce in Sheboygan County by optimizing Lakeland University’s Cooperative Program, which provides wages and academic credit to students who work in full- and part-time jobs with Co-Op member companies and organizations.

The partnership offers an accelerated certified nurse aide (CNA) training program during Lakeland’s academic breaks, and Rocky Knoll Health Care Center works directly with Lakeland’s exercise sports science program to recruit caregivers and educate on the career possibilities within skilled nursing.

Launch: Lakeland Student-Run Businesses is a venture that empowers students to take charge of their own entrepreneurial journeys. Through Launch, students are provided with the tools and support to create, develop and manage income-generating businesses. These experiences offer a paid opportunity for students and serve as a platform to cultivate cooperative skills and develop strong leadership capabilities.

Launch currently operates four businesses: Musko’s Campus Shop, which is Lakeland’s only apparel story; an event planning business; Lakeland Content Writers, which provides a wide array of marketing and other writing for businesses and organizations; and Elementastic, which provides a range of educational offerings, including after-school programs, interactive science shows, in-school field trips, and public and company events.

Launch is one of just three student-run business ventures in the state, including Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Launch currently offers the most robust program and business lineup of the three.
