Lakeland College football player Kendrick Burks (So.-Pontiac, Mich.) has been named the recipient of this week's Muskie of the Week award.
Burks, a running back and kick returner on the football team, carried the ball 26 times for a career high 149 yards and a touchdown in the Muskies' 27-17 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday. His 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave Lakeland a 17-14 lead at the time, and for the game Burks accounted for all but 25 yards of the Muskies' 174 yards of total offense. He also returned one kickoff for 21 yards.
For the season Burks is leading Lakeland in rushing with 73 carries for 238 yards and two touchdowns. He currently ranks fifth in the Northern Athletics Conference in total rushing yards, and his 59.5 yards rushing per game ranks sixth in the conference. The Muskies are 0-4 on the season heading into this weekend's Homecoming game against Rockford (Ill.) College at 1 p.m. at Taylor Field.
