Two Lakeland College seniors - Jenny LaLuzerne (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and Rylee Hernandez (St. Paul, Minn.) - will be in Dallas this weekend after being selected to attend the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum on Nov. 1-4. The two will join Assistant Athletic Director April Arvan in representing Lakeland.
LaLuzerne is from Sturgeon Bay and is a member of Lakeland's softball team. Hernandez is from St. Paul, Minn., and is a member of the men's basketball team.
It's the first time since the Leadership Forum has been established in 2002 that Lakeland students have been selected to attend.
"The NCAA provides this incredible leadership curriculum with gifted facilitators and a superb networking experience that allows the students to grow and learn how to have a voice as student-athletes," Arvan said. "Jenny and Rylee will learn a lot, and they'll be great ambassadors of Lakeland."
The Leadership Forum engages a diverse and dynamic representation of student-athletes, coaches, faculty and administrators and provides timely sessions that enhance personal awareness and leadership skills needed to impact student-athlete development at the campus and conference level, and beyond the college realm.
LaLuzerne and Hernandez will learn more about assessing behavioral styles to enhance communication, exploring how values and behavior shape leadership style, new ways to become a more effective leader and more.
