Veronika Lau, a junior at Lakeland College, is joining Daniel W. Bateman, executive director of Spaceport Sheboygan, to co-present a program at The Space Exploration Educators Conference in Houston, Texas, this weekend.
Lau and Bateman are presenting a program showing teachers a way to bring rockets into the classroom on a modest budget. Spaceport Sheboygan has developed a stomp launcher system that can be constructed for less than $30.
Lau will spend the weekend doing research for her honors project, as well as touring the NASA facility. It is the ninth time Bateman has presented at the conference since 2000.
The conference is held every year at Space Center Houston, the visitor center for NASA's Johnson Space Center.
Presenters from around the world attend this conference to learn more about what is going on in the world of space exploration and to learn new techniques for inspiring students of all ages. In 2012, there were more than 500 educators from six countries at the event.
