Assistant Professor of Instrumental Music and Director of Bands, French Horn, Music Education, Music History
Evan Chancellor serves as Director of Bands at Lakeland, overseeing the Symphonic Band, Muskie Pride Marching Band, and the LU Drumline. Chancellor also teaches applied horn, as well as courses in music history, conducting, and music education. He previously served on the faculty of Oklahoma Baptist University, East Central Oklahoma State University and Oral Roberts University. He also held teaching positions with programs including El Sistema Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Homeschool Bands, and public schools in Oklahoma and Texas. Dr. Chancellor is the director of the Lakeland Music Camp and also teaches at Hummingbird Music Camp in New Mexico.
An active recitalist, Dr. Chancellor has given solo and chamber performances in Austria, France, Japan, China and throughout the U.S. He plays regularly with the Sheboygan Symphony and other regional ensembles. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, he was a founding member of the Norman Philharmonic, Frontier Brass Band and the Oklahoma Haydn Festival, and was featured as a concerto soloist with the Haydn Festival in 2014 and 2017. Dr. Chancellor has also performed with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Symphony, Tulsa Ballet, Edmond Jazz Orchestra, Enid Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, North Texas Chamber Orchestra, North Texas Brass Band, and the Eisenstadt Classical Music Festival.
Chancellor received the DMA (doctor of musical arts) degree from the University of Oklahoma, MM (master of music) from Oklahoma City University, and BME (bachelor of music education) from the University of North Texas. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Kappa Psi, the American Federation of Musicians, the Collegiate Band Directors National Association, National Band Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
