Two Lakeland College hospitality management students completed an exciting four-day internship last week at an internationally known convention in Washington, D.C.

Noel TenPas and Janel Weir both worked at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference 2016. They were among 400 students chosen from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants to help handle logistics at this mammoth event – which hosted more than 15,000 people.

The AIPAC covered all of the two Lakeland students’ travel and lodging expenses, and paid them a stipend.

TenPas will graduate in May and Weir will earn her diploma next December.

“This is certainly a feather in the cap for those excellent students, for Lakeland College and for our hospitality management program,” said Britanni Meinnert, Lakeland’s instructor of hospitality management.

“I think both of these students’ experience and knowledge that they have acquired while attending Lakeland have really helped them stand out. Both have worked in guest services and helped plan events, and they are both very personable.”

Among the students’ duties during this internship were directing delegates to where they should be, helping with transport, registering attendees and more.
