Lakeland University's ninth annual Integration Bee featured 11 competitors and six rounds of intense mathematics problem solving.

As he has done since the event's beginning, Lakeland graduate Jolson Ng '58 donated $200 for the prizes.

First place went to Yiyi Xie, who earned $100. Matthew Seider won second place ($60) and Nicholas Koerber took third ($40).

"We really appreciate Dr. Ng's support all these years," said Cristi Chang, Lakeland's associate professor of mathematics. "Without his great support, this event would not be nearly as successful and rewarding for the students."

After the traditional pizza party, the two-hour competition began. All of the students solved the same problem in each round. The final problem, and the answer, were:

\[\int \frac{1}{x^2+5x+6}dx=\ln|x+2|-\ln|x+3|+C\]
