Lakeland College celebrated academic achievement, awarded a new student scholarship, honored a popular staff member and shared singing, dancing and original poetry with a full house in the Bradley Theatre at Saturday’s Essence of Heritage event. Essence of Heritage, presented by Lakeland’s Black Student Union, annually pays homage to diversity and Black History Month. Four accomplished Lakeland College graduates spent several hours Tuesday talking to current Lakeland students as part of the 2015 Science Colloquium. The alumni first conducted a panel discussion in front of more than 80 Lakeland students, then later met with smaller groups in classrooms. Three talented Lakeland College art students from Sheboygan presented their work to dozens of peers, family members and supporters when their Senior Art Student Portfolio Exhibition opened at the Bradley Theatre last week. Alhanna LaRose, Tarah Johnson and Breanna Weber spoke about their experiences in Lakeland’s art program, and answered questions from members of the audience.
