Garrett Duffin, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, won third place in the New Investigator Award at the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports 37th annual Conference. Lakeland's Fox Cities Center staff recently assisted with Fox Valley Tech's Girltech summer camp by providing an engaging activity for approximately 50 girls ages 9-13. Girltech is a week-long camp at which the girls participate in hands-on activities with computers, welding, science and more, all taught by professional women. The Fox Cities staff tasked the girls with who could build the highest tower that could hold a tennis ball using only straws and masking tape. The staff also talked to…

Lakeland University exercise science research students and recent graduates presented the following studies at the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports 37 Annual Conference, in Oxford, Ohio, on July 21-25, 2019. The Lakeland University exercise science research team presented more research posters than any other participant at the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports 37th Annual Conference, in Oxford, Ohio, on July 21-25. A group of Lakeland students recently spent 10 days in Germany and Belgium studying the science of fermentation and biotechnology. Assistant Professor of Biochemistry Jered McGivern led the trip, which included students Gabbie Barefield, Lauren Bruggink, Adrienne Guarnieri, Ryan Hoey and Mitchel Larsen. The course was open to any Lakeland student and helped fulfill a general education requirement. The group spent time in Munich and Bamberg in Germany and Bruges, Ypres and Brussels in Belgium.
