One student explained how a plant native to Belize can neutralize malaria. Another student blended diesel fuel with multiple forms of biodiesel from household oil, then used the various combinations in a tractor. And another tested the healing power of nitrous oxide on wounded frogs. After nearly an hour of working with words, playing Simon Says and receiving some appreciative hugs, a group of women's volleyball players wrapped up another year of Lakeland College athletes volunteering in Sheboygan elementary schools to help students learn. Lakeland athletic teams are paired up with specific schools by the Sheboygan Area School District. Eight Brazilian students from Lakeland's English Language Institute proudly shared information and anecdotes about their home country for a couple of hours on Wednesday. The students, who represent a new initiative by the Brazilian government, gave presentations via laptops to fellow Lakeland students, faculty and staff at the Daily Grind on campus.
