April 2020 – Muskie Pride

WE MISS YOU!

Lakeland band still making music

Lakeland’s band hasn’t met in person since early March, but that hasn’t stopped them from making music together. LU Professor of Music Evan Chancellor has students putting together a series of digital performances. We have debuted the first one, a performance of David Holsinger’s arrangement for wind band of Philip Bliss’ touching hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”. Speakers on, everybody!

COVID-19 Emergency Fund supports student needs

Lakeland University is doing everything we can to support the success and safety of our students. The Lakeland COVID-19 Emergency Fund has raised more than $25,000 from more than 100 donors so far. On behalf of the students these funds will benefit, thank you!

Help us keep the momentum going! If you are able, please visit Lakeland.edu/giveback and join us as we help our students with extraordinary needs resulting from COVID-19.

We are #MuskieStrong!

If you want to learn more about how Lakeland has responded to the coronavirus, we have compiled a page on our website dedicated to COVID-19 related information.

Celebrating our seniors

The spring sports season did not end the way anyone could have imagined. Thankfully, we were able to record videos with the seniors from most of our spring teams before the seasons were cancelled and we switched to all-online learning. Check out the first video, beginning with softball, as we salute those Muskies for their time and talent representing the navy and gold during their athletic careers. We will always be grateful!

Future videos will be shared on the Lakeland University Muskies Facebook page.

Lakeland lands $35.4 million loan to fund significant residence hall project

Earlier this month, Lakeland learned we have received a $35.4 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development division that will finance the largest investment in our main campus in the institution’s 158-year history and position LU for long-term growth. See the full story on our blog!

Nominate your peers

Each year, Lakeland University honors distinguished alumni and community members for their achievements. While we are able to tell many of our Lakeland success stories, we rely on our alumni to help us identify stories we may have missed along the way. There is still time to submit nominations for the 2020 alumni awards! The celebration will take place during Homecoming weekend. Follow the link below to see all the categories.

Our Campus Chaplain, the Rev. Julie A. Mavity Maddalena, Ph.D., offers this prayer and words of comfort for all of us during these unsettling times. We thank her for her inspiring words and outreach. We hope this finds you and yours safe and well!
