Lakeland microscope donations benefit local organizations

Thanks to a grant from the West Foundation to obtain higher quality microscopes for Lakeland University’s teaching labs, the LU biology department recently helped two local organizations improve their microscopy capabilities.

Over the past year, Lakeland’s biology department has made a large donation of older (but functional) monocular scopes to the Howards Grove School District and a smaller donation to the John Michael Kohler Art’s Center in Sheboygan.

Twenty-two monocular microscopes were donated to Howards Grove schools in August of 2023 for use in their science courses. That donation was coordinated by LU adjunct instructor Hannah Harder-Chancellor, who worked with a local teacher in Howards Grove to coordinate the donation.

This October, Lakeland made a second donation of two binocular compound microscopes to the JMKAC to assist their efforts to incorporate microscopy in their art course offerings.
