Noted author, historian to deliver Lakeland talk
Patrick Parr, an author, historian and Lakeland University-Japan faculty member, will deliver a talk entitled “The Individual and the Community” in the Campus Center Event Space on Thursday, February 12, at 7 p.m.
Parr is the author of “Malcom Before X;” “One Week in America: The 1968 Notre Dame Literary Festival and a Changing Nation;” and “The Seminarian: Martin Luther King Jr. Comes of Age.” He also writes for Japan Today about historical figures.
The first part of the talk will be centered on civil rights icons Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, and the obstacles they faced in prison and seminary, respectively. He will expand the talk by providing other examples of historical figures facing challenges in their early 20s and show how we can learn from their experiences and apply them to our own lives.
Copies of his books will be available for purchase.
