Writing professor wins fiction contest
Lakeland University Associate Professor of Writing Jodie Mortag’s short story “Nightcrawler” has been awarded 1st place in “Mikrokosmos”' 2025 Fiction Contest by guest judge Scott Phillips, author of nine novels and a collection of short stories. His first short story, “The Ice Harvest,” was made into a film adapted by Robert Benton and Richard Russo and directed by Harold Ramis, starring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Connie Nielsen.
Mortag received a $200 prize, and her story will appear in Volume 71 of “Mikrokosmos” published this month.
