Lakeland University Counseling Program Ranked No. 3 in Wisconsin
Lakeland University’s Master of Arts in Counseling program has been ranked No. 3 among master’s in counseling programs in Wisconsin by CounselingPsychology.org in its 2027 state rankings
The rankings consider factors including affordability, online and hybrid flexibility, completion and job placement outcomes, licensure pathways, specialization options and accreditation status.
Lakeland’s Master of Arts in Counseling is a 48- to 60-credit professional graduate program designed to prepare students for careers across three areas of counseling: clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and higher education counseling and student affairs.
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling track meets Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services requirements for Wisconsin Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure. The School Counseling track is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for Wisconsin school counselor licensure and certification. The Higher Education Counseling and Student Affairs track aligns with standards endorsed by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education and professional competencies endorsed by the American College Personnel Association.
The program offers a hybrid format and evening classes designed to accommodate working professionals. Students can also pursue a six-year bachelor’s-to-master’s pathway, allowing them to begin graduate-level counseling coursework as an undergraduate and transition directly into the Master of Arts in Counseling program. Lakeland also offers a post-master’s in School Counseling Certificate approved by the DPI and a post-master’s in Clinical Mental Health approved by DSP.
“Counseling is a field where students need both strong academic preparation and meaningful opportunities to apply what they are learning,” said Veronica Lampe, Lakeland’s director of the Master of Arts in Counseling program. “Our program gives students the opportunity to prepare for a variety of counseling careers while providing the flexibility to continue working and gain meaningful professional experience along the way.”
