Lakeland University to Host Wisconsin Association for Food Protection Fall Meeting
Lakeland University will host the Wisconsin Association for Food Protection (WAFP) Fall Meeting on Oct. 6, bringing food safety and quality professionals from across Wisconsin together to learn, connect and engage in conversations about current issues affecting the industry.
The meeting reflects Lakeland’s commitment to food safety and quality education through its Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) program, which prepares students to address the challenges facing today’s food industry. Located in the heart of Wisconsin’s food-production region, Lakeland is surrounded by many of the state’s leading dairy, meat and food-processing companies.
The WAFP Fall Meeting provides an opportunity for professionals from across the food industry, academia and regulatory organizations to share knowledge, build connections and stay informed on emerging food safety and quality issues at the state and national levels. The event also creates opportunities for companies and industry professionals to connect with others working in the field and contribute to the broader conversation around food safety.
The full WAFP experience begins Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. in Kohler with a tour of Woodlake Market and a visit to The Greenhouse, a reimagined historic space that is now a distinctive Kohler coffee shop.
The afternoon will also feature an exclusive Kohler Chocolates experience being offered to food safety professionals for the first time. Attendees will hear the story behind the storefront before going behind the scenes for a closer look at the people, processes and craftsmanship involved in producing Kohler’s luxury chocolates. The day will conclude with dinner at a family-owned Italian restaurant in Sheboygan.
On Oct. 6, attendees will gather at Lakeland University for presentations on a variety of food safety topics, including C. botulinum in dry products, radiological hazards, environmental monitoring programs and leadership. The day will also include networking opportunities, lunch and a WAFP business meeting, student award presentations and a leadership award presentation.
Dr. Leili Afsah-Hejri, president of WAFP and director of Lakeland’s Food Safety & Quality program, will kick off the meeting with an overview of the organization. Her leadership with WAFP and at Lakeland reflects the university’s connection to the food safety and quality profession and its commitment to providing students and industry professionals with opportunities to learn from one another.
WAFP is dedicated to advancing food safety and quality in Wisconsin and brings together professionals from across the food industry, academia and regulatory organizations.
Attendees can register for the full Oct. 5-6 experience or for the Fall Meeting at Lakeland University on Oct. 6 only. Current students can attend the Oct. 6 Fall Meeting at no cost, providing an opportunity to learn from and connect with food safety and quality professionals from across Wisconsin.
