More than 200 students put their math skills to the test at Lakeland
Lakeland University welcomed more than 200 students from 10 area high schools to campus Monday, Oct. 19, for an evening of mathematics competition.
Organized by Lakeland’s Mathematics Department and Math Club, the event gave high school students an opportunity to challenge themselves, work through problems and compete alongside students from other schools in the area.
The evening also offered a chance for students to experience Lakeland’s campus and connect with members of the university’s Mathematics Department and Math Club.
When the competition wrapped up, Math Club President Natalie Ziebell and Vice President Sawyer Laffoon led the awards ceremony. Sheboygan North took first place, followed by Kohler in second and De Pere in third.
Individual accomplishments were also recognized, with 11 All-Star medals and 13 Honorable Mention medals presented to students who stood out during the competition.
Events like this are a great way to bring area schools together while giving students an opportunity to put their skills to work in a competitive setting. For Lakeland, it’s also another way to connect with students in the community and showcase the opportunities available on campus.
Thank you to all of the students, teachers, volunteers, Math Club members and Mathematics Department faculty who helped make the evening a success.
