Pickhardt continues to give back
For the fourth straight year, Lakeland Associate Professor of Biology Paul Pickhardt will make the kitchen his laboratory.
For this year’s “Men Who Cook” event, set for Saturday, Feb. 16, at Blue Harbor Resort, Pickhardt will prepare Vietnamese Bahn Mi street tacos—a fusion meal of grilled chicken, Asian pickled vegetables topped with a spicy, Sriracha-vinegar mayo that he will serve taco style for about 300 guests at the popular Safe Harbor fundraiser.
Men Who Cook is open to the public. Reservations can be made via the Men Who Cook website and the event typically sells out.
Safe Harbor is a domestic abuse and sexual assault shelter in Sheboygan, and proceeds from the Men Who Cook event help fund this important local resource. Pickhardt will again be joined in the kitchen by his youngest brother, Peter Pickhardt, of Deforest, Wis., and they are appreciative for Lakeland covering the costs of the raw food.
“Safe Harbor is an incredibly important resource for affected families in our area,” Pickhardt said. “I think it’s safe to say that the guests who attend the Men Who Cook event truly enjoy the food, supporting such an important cause and it would be great to see some Lakeland faculty and staff there, as in previous years.”
