Did you know Shrove Tuesday coincides with Fat Tuesday, a Mardi Gras celebration. It's a time to celebrate with sweets before the Christian season of Lent (a time for solemn reflection and repentance) begins.
Why pancakes? Early Christians made pancakes and other sweets to use up key ingredients that may spoil during the 6 weeks of Lent, which was a time of fasting.
