Black Foundation grant to benefit SASD/Lakeland partnership
The Sheboygan Area School District has received a grant from the Black Spring Foundation which will, in part, fund the dual enrollment program with Lakeland University.
SASD received $466,00 total and the dollars will benefit education and the Sheboygan community. The grant was made in honor of Natalie Black and Herbert V. Kohler Jr.
The funding will continue to allow SASD high school students to earn college credits free of charge.
Now in its second year, the SASD/Lakeland partnership allows SASD students free access to Lakeland Concurrent Academic Progress Program (CAPP) courses, simultaneously providing high school and college credits.
In the 2023-24 school year, nearly 900 students took advantage of the courses earning more than 5,000 college credits with a value of more than $2 million.
“Lakeland has been a leader in breaking down economic barriers between students and the cost of higher education,” said Lakeland President Beth Borgen. “It is gratifying to see SASD receive this support for our work together, as well as the other great work they are doing for their students. We look forward to growing this program and providing more local students with access to college coursework.”
Dollars from the grant will also fund SASD’s Lexia Reading Intervention program and the introduction of new specialized programming for students with special needs.
