David Gallianetti Honored With New Scholarship Initiative
At Lakeland’s October 8 Board of Trustees meeting, the University’s Board and Administration jointly honored David Gallianetti for outstanding community service by establishing the Gallianetti Scholars Initiative. Gallianetti Scholars will work in the nonprofit division of Launch: Lakeland's Student-Run Businesses — part of the University’s Cooperative Education program.
In announcing the honor, President Black stated: “David Gallianetti casts a long shadow of influence and stewardship over the lives of Lakeland students and the services of this region’s major community institutions. I work on the same floor as he, and the number of students who visit to seek his counsel is visible every day. As to important community service, his board leadership of the School District, Symphony Orchestra, County Historical Research Center, United Way, Weill Center and Elkhart Lake Chamber of Commerce, plus a number of others over the years, continues to add to the quality of life in this region. Lakeland’s Launch initiative will include one student-run business that will provide marketing and organizational support services to nonprofits in the area at free or reduced rates. The select group of students comprising that business shall from this day forward do so as Gallianetti Scholars. Importantly, they will be challenged to follow his example and will be mentored by him along the way.”
Please join us in thanking “G” for all he does and congratulating him on this deserved honor.
