Graduating seniors share most important advice to underclassmen
May. 9, 2019
We all know graduating can be exciting, terrifying, and everything in between. As the Class of 2019 gets ready to graduate on May 11, what better way to end the year than with some of the best advice the seniors had to offer. Get your notepads out folks, this is some good stuff…
- “Be yourself, be confident, and know that it’s okay to make mistakes.” - Tali Coleman
- “Don’t let college engulf you. Obviously get your work done and study, but make time to enjoy the little things and friendships that college will bring. It’ll all be over before you know it, so cherish it.” - K.J. Odom
- “Realize that everyone is growing and changing and starting a new chapter in their life, this is new for everyone, so in the meantime take chances, laugh at yourself, and most importantly enjoy now.” - Cameron Sharp
- “Reach out to others. Keep your dorm rooms open sometimes, some of those random people walking by become your best friends.” - Meghan Etten
- “Start creating professional avenues as soon as you can. You don’t realize how little time you have. There are always opportunities in fields you may be interested in and even if you don’t think you meet the requirements, apply anyway.” - Adrienne Guarnieri
- “Take advantage of internships, they give you the chance to apply your knowledge from the classroom.” - Jacob Barthels
- “Grades are important but don’t skip out on the random unplanned adventures with your friends because that’s what you’ll remember from college; your friends, not homework.” - Shelby Welsh
- “Treat yourself to some alone time, but don’t become too comfortable with it. Stay curious.” - Linda Xyooj
- “Be open minded- college is about change. Embrace it, it’s a good thing. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable, it’s the only way you will grow.” - Rylee Garand
- “Don’t stress too much. School is important, but so is enjoying your college life with the people around you. Be a prisoner of the moment sometimes and have fun with your people. Know when you have to get stuff done but don’t trip, you’re gonna figure it out and be just fine.” - Garrett Duffin
If I could go back to my freshman year self, there are so many things I would tell myself, but in the wise words of my fellow seniors, enjoy it. Soak in every moment, the all nighters, early mornings, random Walmart trips. These four years will fly by… and when it’s over, you can’t get it back.
