Lakeland nursing program students, staff honored

Several students and staff within Lakeland University’s bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program have recently been honored.

Millicent Hon, BSN, RN, and Michelle Urbanek, BSN, RN, were awarded educational scholarships from the Wisconsin Organization of Nurse Leaders (WONL). Registered nurses pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing from an accredited program are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Hon and Urbanek are December graduates of Lakeland’s RN to BSN Completion Program.

Jill Vanne, MSN, RN, adjunct nursing faculty in the BSN completion program, has been selected as a peer evaluator for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Peer evaluators are chosen based on their knowledge, expertise and contributions to nursing education and practice.

Peer evaluators are considered subject matter experts, recognized as knowledgeable about common, contemporary and best practices within the various program types, appropriate curricula and conventions and current trends in healthcare, nursing education and nursing practice.

Kerry Hamm, MSN, RN, CNE, program director and nursing instructor in the BSN completion program, has been awarded certification as an academic nurse educator from the National League for Nursing (NLN). Certification is a mark of professionalism and communicates to students, peers and the educational and health communities that the highest standards of excellence are being met.

The NLN recognizes certification as the mark of distinction for nursing academic leaders and faculty, illustrating the nurse educator’s specialized knowledge, skills and abilities.
