Lakeland Student Receives CIC/UPS Scholarship

Lakeland student David Aragon of Milwaukee, Wis., has been selected to receive a CIC/UPS Scholarship provided by the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) and its national partner, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) in Washington, DC. Aragon is a creative writing major and his scholarship is for $3,200.

Nationally, CIC, through the CIC/UPS Educational Endowment, provided more than $1.4 million in student scholarships to support student success at private colleges and universities. This year, the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) awarded $67,200 in CIC/UPS Scholarships to 21 low-income students, first generation students, students of color and new American students at private institutions across Wisconsin.

"We know that now, more than ever, financial aid plays a critical role in students achieving their postsecondary goals," said WAICU President Rolf Wegenke. "We are grateful to the CIC and UPS for providing this scholarship, which affects the deserving recipients and helps Wisconsin be one step closer to reaching our postsecondary attainment goals."
