LU counting down to graduation on Saturday
Lakeland University will award degrees to just over 650 students on Saturday, May 11, at the institution's 157th commencement.
A total of 658 students are eligible to graduate, including 456 undergraduates and 202 graduate students. A graduate student ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., undergraduates from the evening and online programs will graduate in a 1 p.m. ceremony and undergraduates from the traditional main campus program will graduate in a 4 p.m. ceremony. The ceremonies are held in the Woltzen Gym in the Wehr Center on Lakeland’s main campus.

Lakeland offers classes to students at its main campus in Sheboygan County, through seven centers located throughout Wisconsin and through online programming.
Speakers at the three ceremonies will be Marcus Lewis, higher education division manager of the Ho-Chunk Nation Education Department; Susan May, president and chief executive officer of Fox Valley Technical College; and Eloise Anderson, retired Wisconsin Secretary of Children and Families. All three will receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.
Lewis has backgrounds in music education and social justice, and he has taught business and basic Ho-Chunk language, conducted various community and university music ensembles and facilitates workshops on seeking educational equity and diversity. His professional research has focused on equity and diversity in education, culturally responsive pedagogy, privilege studies, qualitative research and constructivist epistemology.
May has a 35-year career with FVTC where she has served in a variety of administrative roles. She began her career as a high school teacher and department chair. She has won numerous awards for her work and leadership and served in a variety of roles in the greater Fox Valley community.
Anderson was named the state’s Secretary of Children and Families in 2001 and she was known as an influential, innovative and motivational visionary in public policy creation, analysis and implementation. Prior to her role as secretary, she worked for more than 45 years in executive and leadership positions at various public organizations and institutions, including Job Wave America, the University of California-Sacramento, the Claremont Institute and at various levels of local and regional government in both Wisconsin and California.
