Lakeland University Current Production

Tiny, Beautiful Things

2023 Spring Musical: "Mission Haus to the Stars: A Space Rock Opera"

This spring, Lakeland will present a production of Rick Dodgson's "Mission Haus to the Stars: A Space Rock Opera."

It tells the story of Mae Day Starlight—the heroine of the piece—and her adventures in outer space and on a strange alien planet. The show stars a cast of talented Lakeland students and staff, and features local musicians Dave Steffen, Ross Fale, Doc Mock, Michael Murphy and Rick Dodgson in the Mission Haus Band. The brainchild of Rick Dodgson, a history professor at Lakeland, the music and lyrics are all original, as is the stage play, which has been specially adapted for the Lakeland performance in the Bradley Theatre. The costumes and props are all hand-made, mostly out of recycled objects and thrift-store treasures.

"We've recruited a fabulous cast, crew and musicians from Lakeland and the local community," Dodgson said. "We've all put hours of hard work into this production and we're all really excited by our efforts. Frankly, anything could happen on the night, but I promise you something you'll never forget."

Beer, wine, soda and snacks will be available.
